Northeast Ridge
The Northeast Ridge of San Bruno Mountain was home to the highest concentrations of Mission Blue and Callippe Silverspot butterflies on the mountain 30 years ago. The Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), allowed for a lot of development on the NER. The orginal EIR, first approved in 1982, was amended in 1989, and again in 2010. While the number of planned housing units have shrunk in the last 28 years, and the best butterfly habitat has been spared, the destruction and fragmentation of habitat has corresponded with a general trend downward in butterfly sitings in this area. SBMW has fought against development on the NER since the development plans were hatched. Unfortuantely, we have lost the last battle, and the housing is scheduled to go forward.
