San Bruno Mountain Friends, The Monday, February 1st, Brisbane Council meeting was supposed to culminate in a vote on the EIR Addendum for Brookfield’s building project on the Northeast Ridge. The comment period went on long enough that the vote was postponed until February 16th. As in the previous meeting, the overwhelming majority of speakers were against approval of the project. Brisbane Mayor Clarke Conway allowed short public comments, along with presentations and question and answer sessions with the city’s menu of experts, in a session that lasted about two hours. Each of the carefully selected “experts” has been working in favor of the project for the last three years. All were either government agency employees or contractors who have been paid, either directly, or indirectly, by the billion-dollar corporation Brookfield Homes. If you doubt this look at our page: Follow the Money, and if you doubt the information on that page then ask Brisbane City Manager Clay Holstein, or San Mateo County employees Sam Hertzberg and Dave Holland. At the previous meeting, San Bruno Mountain Watch urged that the council seek experts from both sides of the issue, or at least ask questions of the experts that have spoken against approval of the project. This suggestion was ignored. This basic lack of fairness in the hearing was not lost on the citizens who spoke up. One Brisbane voter pointedly asked the council members, in turn, “Who will speak for the people of Brisbane?” The only response to Jamie's plea came from councilman Cliff Lentz, the others remained silent and stoic.
Now that public comment is closed, activists are still encouraged to write the council members urging them to vote the desire of their constituents. We would like to pack the next meeting, when the vote is likely to happen. If the council is going to SPEAK FOR THE DEVELOPER, BROOKFIELD HOMES, rather then citizens of Brisbane, California, let them do so in front of the us. So please continue to take action and write in to the Brisbane City Council and attend the next meeting on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, 7:30 PM |
