Our Advocacy Effort to Preserve the Daly City Dunes
Our purpose is to keep interested persons informed as to upcoming events and hearings, contact information for public officials, and suggestions for what you can do to contribute to the effort. At this time, the exact process necessary for the planned parcel subdivision and development is unclear. Therefore the timeline is also unclear.
What we know at this time:
- The owners of property at the heart of the Daly City Dunes have decided to go ahead with plans to develop their parcels;
- The property owners have not yet submitted all required reports to the Daly City Planning Department;
- Once all reports are in, the Planning Department sends some reports to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) for review, which could take 2 months; and
- Depending on the reviews from USFWS and DFG, Daly City will decide either that an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is required, or it is not required, in which case the City will issue a Negative Declaration for the project.
If Daly City chooses a Negative Declaration, events may unfold quickly. The public will get 2 public comment periods, as well as time to submit written comments. It will be important to submit as many comments as possible, and to get as many citizens as possible to attend the public comment meetings.
If the City chooses an EIR, they will have to hire an EIR consultant who will write a draft EIR. There will be more comment periods and more public comment opportunites - and more time for organizing.
This page will be kept up-to-date, notifying you of what is happening and what is required. Please sign up for our mailing list to get email notifications. Here are some ideas for actions you can take now to help preserve these dunes:
- Talk to your neighbors about the dunes, why they are important and the impact of development
- Express your concerns to the Daly City Mayor and Council Members (contact information below)
- Submit comments about preserving the dunes for consideration in the Daly City General Plan - see below
- Volunteer to help San Bruno Mountain Watch with comments, mailings and canvassings when these occur
