Spring Wildflower Walk

  • Montessori School 1400 Hillside Blvd South San Francisco, CA 94080 (map)

*Note: this hike is still on for Sunday March 6th - it looks like the weather will be OK - heavy rain will cancel until next weekend, March 13th, but in light rain we will still head out. Use contact information below to check with leaders for updates.

Spring should be coming into full bloom as we explore the undiscovered south slopes of San Bruno Mountain. On this wildflower walk we will parade through large gardens of bright orange California poppies, delicate yellow-flowered lomatium, brilliant fuschia-colored hummingbird sage and the Mission Blue butterfly's host plant, silver bush lupine (Lupinus albifrons var. collinus) with it's large and lovely purple, blue and white blooms. The south slopes have the largest expanses of native grasslands on the Mountain and are critical endangered butterfly habitat.

Please wear sturdy shoes for the sometimes steep hills and valleys - bring water, snacks and a camera as it will be truly gorgeous up there.

Contact Chuck or Loretta or call 650 952 6174 or 650 291 2931 if you have any questions. Heavy rain will cancel until March 13th - but we're good to go in light rain on March 6th - so be prepared!

We can all meet near the restrooms for the Terrabay Field behind the Montessori School at 1400 Hillside Blvd., South San Francisco.
